Welcome to Hucclecote Rugby Clubs annual player’s dinner. Unfortunately I cannot be with you all this evening, due to being called away on a business trip; I hope you can understand my circumstances and the fact that I can be called away at short notice.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank or guest speaker(s) for his/their time this evening. And to you, young and not so young past and present players and friends of Hucclecote rugby football club for attending this dinner in our 40th year.
It’s been a difficult year for our 1st team, but they showed great promise with the young players developing into good senior players and more in the wings to follow. It’s only a question of time. The 2nds finishing 2nd in the league and I believe promotion WELL DONE, GREAT EFFORT and the 3rds putting in great performances throughout the season and reaching the semi finals of the county cup. It’s good to see that we can still send out three sides on a Saturday when most clubs are struggling to get two. Hucclecote RFC back on tour again. Great news. I’m sure the people of Twerptown will have benefited from your cultured activities.
The senior ladies side finished 2nd in the league and again I believe promotion. They also had several ladies in representative sides towards the end of the season (South West England). Great news for our girls and rugby club.
The junior section has again put in some outstanding performances this season. U17’s getting to quarter finals of a national competition and semi finals of the county cup. U16’s winning the county cup in a magnificent hard fought game against Cinderford. That’s 2 years on the trot they’ve won this trophy.
Well done to all the younger members, U15’s downward. I know they have a presentation day later on in the year.
And a BIG thank you to all the coaches in all sections, assistants, managers, HRC committee, for all their hard work, don’t moan you want to try it, bar staff, cleaners, event organisers, captains, players, vice presidents, parents/guardians of junior players, all those people that put themselves out to prepare meals on match days, mark the pitches, collect the fees, look after the upkeep of the building, members and friends and anybody else I’ve not mentioned.
Congratulations to all those players that have been selected to play for their Country, County, District, combination and all other representative games, keep up the good work and don’t forget your roots.
If I had enough cups, you would all get one. Unfortunately I can only award one which will be done later in proceedings.
Congratulations to everybody that has won an award this evening you thoroughly deserve it.
And so, have a great evening, listen to your guest speaker (name), don’t get too drunk, Kelvin’s offered to buy a few jugs, and most importantly keep fighting for your Hucclecote Rugby Club, stick together and support each other, on and off the rugby pitch. Have a great night. |
